Homemade Laundry Cleaners

LaundryI’ve come up with two recipes for making your own laundry detergent!  Super easy and works great.  One is liquid and one is a powder.  Just depending on what you prefer, I think they both work great.

Liquid Laundry Detergent

4 cups boiling water                        1 cup liquid soap ( I use Dr. Bronner’s)

1 cup Washing Soda                          5 capfuls Thieves Household Cleaner

1 cup Borax                                          3 Tblsp Mrs. Stewarts Bluing Agent

Boil 4 cups water in pan.  Turn off heat and add washing soda, Borax, and Thieves Household Cleaner.  Fill 5 gallon bucket half full with hot tap water.  Add the mixture to the bucket and stir well until all powder is dissolved.  Fill the bucket to just below the top with water.  Stir, cover and let it sit overnight to thicken.  Add bluing agent.  Fill an empty liquid laundry detergent bottle half full with soap and fill the rest with tap water.

Top loading machine use 3/4 cup per load (approximately 180 loads)

Front loading machine use 1/4 cup per load (approximately 640 loads)

2 bars of shaved bar soap( I use Dr. Bronner’s)

2 cups borax

2 cups washing soda

1/2 cup Baking Soda

10-15 drops Thieves Oil

Put the soap bars in the food processor and process.  Thoroughly stir all ingredients together.  Add 10- 15 drop Thieves Oil.   You can put this in your food processor or blender to make more of a powder form.   Store in a sealed container.

Use 1 Tbsp. per load (or 2-3 Tbsp. for large or heavily soiled loads) (approximately 64-128 loads depending on how much is used)

Homemade Laundry Stain & Spot Remover

1 1/2 cup water

1/4 cup liquid soap ( I use Dr. Bronner’s)

1/4 cup liquid vegetable glycerin

5-10 drops of Lemon Essential Oil (I only use Young Living Essential Oils)

Glass spray bottle( if using essential oil) or plastic squeeze bottle( if you omit the essential oil)

Mix all ingredients and put into bottle.  To use, shake and apply liberally to spots and stains.  Lightly rub the mixture into the fabric.  This works best if you treat the spot immediately and allow it to soak before tossing it into the washing machine.  You can apply and let let sit overnight and then toss it in the machine!

Lavender Fabric Softener

1 quart glass bottle white vinegar

25 drops of Lavender Essential Oil (I only use Young Living)

1 teaspoon rubbing alcohol(for emulsion)

Add the essential oil and alcohol to the vinegar bottle.  Mix.

Pour 1/2 cup into the rinse cycle or into a fabric softener receptacle and start the wash cycle!!

wool dryer ballDryer Ball

Pair of clean cotton Crew Socks

15-20 drops of Lavender Essential Oil (I only use Young Living)

Drop 15 – 20 drops of Lavender Essential Oil onto the foot section of one sock.  Now tuck scented sock up inside the tube section of the same sock.  Push this balled up sock down into the toeof the second sock.  Twist the second sock to add a little bulk to the Dry Ball…then pull the opening of the sock down onto itself until you have a tight ball.  The tighter the better because not only does it scent your laundry but fluffs the load of laundry too!!  A dryer ball with 15-20 drops of essential oil is good for approximately 10 to 15  loads of laundry.
